High School Lesson Plans

OVERVIEW

High school teachers and educators can choose from a variety of lesson plans that have been specifically designed for College Day. Longer lesson plans can be completed over one or more days. This website also provides supporting materials including handouts, posters, games, and other resources to help students get excited about college.

Each high school should be on the lookout for the College Day Kit, which all Santa Clara County schools will receive in September. It includes College Day Posters for every classroom and other giveaways to encourage students to participate in College Day.

• 8th-12th Grade: How to Make a College Plan
  Students will create and save a personal college road map, and successfully complete this first college planning step. This lesson plan includes an accompanying Student Handout: Make a College Plan in Five Simple Steps.

  Students will perform a college search, research at least one college, and successfully create and save a list of colleges. This lesson plan includes an accompanying Student Handout: How to Build a College List.

• 9th Grade: Exploring Online College Resources
  Students will review the various types of college systems by learning about and exploring various college search and system-wide websites.
  Time: 25 minutes
• 10th Grade: Exploring My Opportunities
  Students will explore opportunities to challenge themselves, show leadership, and seek out new opportunities to participate in.

  Students will brainstorm goals related to post-secondary education.
