Who started the holiday?

How did this holiday start?
A friend of the College Day Partners, Will, recieved a care-package from his dad one day while we were hanging out in his room. Will’s dad had saved up the Sunday comics for a month, and sent them to Will along with some other items. Andy thought about the enjoyment he got out of the care packages he had received and how it was so easy for parents to meaningfully improve the lives of college students. From that point, through discussions of the idea, Andy and others came up with other important aspects of the holiday which are described on this website.

What can I do to make College Day better?
The first and most important thing you can do to make the day better and more special for everyone is to actively take part. The more involved you get, the more involved your friends will be and the more your parents will want to take an active role. Secondly, you can reach out to your local college community and help educate students to the dangers of depression amongst college students, teaching them how to recognize if someone is suffering, and what to do if you know someone who is.
Should I go to school on this day?
Although College Day is not an official holiday, we recommend college students do what they feel is important…and fun. If class is not important to you, don’t go. Or better yet, get your professors to cancel class. If you send an e-mail to us with your Professor’s name and e-mail address we’ll send him or her an e-mail from the College Day team asking them to cancel class on March 5th. Don’t worry, we won’t say that it was you who asked us to.
